The 4th Shanghai Summer School · RCEP Marine Culture International Program & the 6th SHOU Global Summer School lowered its curtain on the morning of June 26th in Room 109 of SHOU Ocean Sci-Tech Building, attended by SHOU Vice President Jiang Min, heads of the International Students' Work Office and the College of Engineering, and presided over by Director Zhu Zhanghua of the International Students' Work Office, and all the students attended the ceremony as scheduled.
The closing ceremony marked the successful conclusion of the current summer school program, and thanks to the early preparation and elaborate planning of the College of Engineering, 34 students from 9 countries have successfully completed their studies.World-class experts and professors brought with them cutting-edge ideas and studies, expanding the students' international perspectives, promoting academic exchanges, and deepening their understanding of the frontier knowledge in maritime engineering; lively and interesting outdoor investigations further enhanced the students' perceptual understanding of marine engineering. The students underwent crew training with the Wu Song ship, touched the creature from the abyss, with their own hands at the Rainbow Fish, understood, with their own eyes, the whole aquaculture process in the Chongming base, and experienced the Chinese marine culture when visiting the Maritime Museum. Moreover, the rich and colorful cultural activities further deepened the students' understanding of traditional Chinese culture, such as tracing carefully in crab shell painting, calligraphy and Chinese painting classes, memorizing music in Guzheng learning, striving hard in dragon boat racing, and learning diligently in Wushu demonstrations. the students tried hard and got new experiences, and all of them said they had gained a lot at the end of the summer school.
At the closing ceremony, Vice President Jiang Min highly appreciated the growth and progress achieved by the students. Centering on the three key words, growth, exchange and enlightenment, the students were sublimed through their fruitful gains in knowledge, cultural understanding, and international horizons. Jiang Min had high hopes for the young students, encouraging them to continue their pursuit of academic excellence and looking forward to their future studies in China, and said that the door to Shanghai Ocean University would be always open to them.
On behalf of the host college of the program, Yan Ping, Secretary of the Party Committee of the College of Engineering, expressed her warm congratulations to all the students. She commended the students for their positive interactions in academic seminars and cultural exchanges, by which they had not only achieved professional growth but also forged deep friendships, and encouraged them to maintain their enthusiasm and creativity, apply what they have learned to the future, and pursue higher academic and professional achievements. Irene Tiong Kai Ru and Hoang Thuy Vi, two student representatives, shared their experiences and insights of their studies in the summer school with the students and teachers present. With fluent Chinese and passionate tone, Irene Tiong Kai Ru told how she marveled at the development of China's maritime engineering and gained a deeper understanding and appreciation of Chinese culture through her participation in various cultural lectures and practical activities. In addition to the knowledge gained, she also gained a lot of friendship from the students from different countries, and felt reluctant to bid farewell to this unforgettable learning trip. She hoped that this activity would be a turning point and milestone in the students' life path, and that they would make the best use of what they have learned in their lives. From the development of China, she felt that “there is no splendor that comes from waiting, only by doing something practical step by step can we walk in the forefront with our heads held high! "
From a different perspective, Hoang Thuy Vi shared how she, just a high school student, connected with her classmates from all over the world and learned the importance of cross-cultural communication through teamwork programs.
